Big Ideas
This is where we keep our most special top secret ideas. We want everyone to have a great time at Camps 'R' Us, so we asked the experts... campers. We are so excited by your ideas that if we choose to implement them into our program, we will let YOU name them. This is where your imagination becomes reality.
Here are some Big Ideas that are now part of the Camps 'R' Us Summer Camp Programs.
Camps 'R' Us Voyagers
Our Teen Trip and Travel Program is for campers in grades 7 thru 9. Campers travel to hand-picked destinations during 4 Weeks Session I or 4 Weeks Session II (to be selected on the Registration Form), and are given the option to register for our C2 Program free of charge (to attend camp when their Voyager group is not in session). Created in conjunction with Marc Hoberman of Grade Success Education Center, the Voyagers will also be given educational opportunities throughout the summer, meeting with local professionals in the child care and related fields.
EDUCAMP Pullouts
In addition to the many wonderful activities that campers enjoy everyday at Camps 'R' Us, we are adding a semi-weekly pullout to the already jam-packed program. Each pullout is specialized for campers at every developmental level, so that everyone can participate. Parents will be able to choose a pullout during the first week of camp, allowing their child/ren to focus on developing core skills in Math and English Language Arts.
Progressive Activity Instruction
Campers sometimes have difficulty adjusting to the camping environment, especially when encountering an activity that requires the utilization of an under-developed skill set. Not to worry, because Camps 'R' Us has developed a system that allows campers at every skill level to participate in any activity. We infuse Skill Building exercises into our vast palette of activities to help novices catch up to more advanced campers. Workshops are sessions that are great for development beyond the basic skills required for an activity.
Progressive Activity Instruction is an extension of our activity programs that adds a teaching element to the camper's experience. For example, before entering into a game of Knockout, the campers will be given instruction as to dribbling, shooting, and rebounding a basketball. Progressive Activity Instruction takes little more that 10% of the total allotted time for an activity, but it reinforces basic skills and allows the campers a chance to practice before attempting the activity.
In addition, progressive activity instruction involves developing more advanced skills throughout the summer. In our basketball example, the next developmental skills include passing, zone defense, and boxing out on offense. Progressive Activity Instruction will be a focus during our extensive Indoor and Outdoor Sports Recreation Program.
