As kids get older, what they want from summer changes. For Explorers® campers at Camps ‘R’ Us, that’s where the Teen Trip and Travel Program comes in: a weekly lineup of off-campus beach trips for kids ready for something bigger than the daily routine. The centerpiece is our Wednesday beach field trip to Sunken Meadow, alongside our other summer camp special events. Each one is planned in advance and led by our staff, which gives older kids the independence they’re ready for in a setting we’ve prepared end to end. These excursions are part of our ACA-accredited program, not extras tacked on.
Why Beach Days Are Perfect for Older Campers
Older campers thrive on a change of scenery. Trading our school-based campuses for the shore at Sunken Meadow is the kind of shift that rewards their maturity. A weekly beach field trip gives Explorers® outdoor adventure, longer stretches of activity, and the chance to spend a full day with friends somewhere new. Whether they’re in the water, playing games on the sand, or just hanging out on the boardwalk, these days build the social bonds older kids care about. They get to step outside the familiar with our staff right alongside them, which is part of why we’re considered one of Long Island’s premier day camps.
Favorite Beach & Water-Based Special Events
The Trip and Travel calendar is packed with off-campus excursions Explorers® circle months in advance. Every Wednesday is a beach day at Sunken Meadow, our standby on the North Shore. Trips to Splish Splash bring high-energy thrills on the slides, and visits to Scott’s Pointe mix water play with plenty of room to run around. These aren’t just trips; they’re real events on the summer calendar. Spreading them across some of the best destinations on Long Island keeps older campers engaged, excited, and outside.
Safety, Supervision & Structure on Water Trips
Off-campus water trips take an extra layer of care, and we plan them that way. We hold our supervision ratios tight, walk campers through the day before we leave campus, and keep our staff in position the whole time we’re at the water. Campers stay in their groups, and no Explorer is ever unaccounted for. It’s the same thinking that has kept families coming back to our family-owned camp since 1993. When it comes to the water, we’d rather over-prepare than wing it.
Elevating the Camps ‘R’ Us Experience
In the end, our beach days and water adventures are about more than cooling off. They break up the routine and become the moments Explorers® remember. Older kids come back to Trip and Travel year after year because they feel respected and challenged, and because we’ve kept Camps ‘R’ Us a high-quality experience without the high price tag. Come see the difference 30+ years can make. Explore our Explorers® Teen Trip and Travel Program and see how we make every Wednesday, and every summer, one for the books.
